In anticipation of the Grand Opening on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at noon, Friends of the Parks Foundation has installed a temporary outdoor art exhibit on the Morrison-Rockwood Recreational Trail. Created by Atlanta, GA, artist Misao Cates, “Forest of My Three Words” is an interactive installation of expression and stories–told through three-word inscriptions.
Visitors are challenged to express themselves in just three words onto a length of ribbon. They then tie those words to one of five bamboo poles that make up a “grove.” Each ribbon will carry a unique message ranging from humorous to profound, from deeply personal to public outcry, and will create the collective voice of the Morrison community.
“Forest of My Three Words” expresses the belief that art is everywhere–including in our daily lives–for everyone, and in everyone. It is hoped that the outdoor art will give opportunities for all to participate and express their personal vision.
The exhibit will run for 16 weeks, until after the annual Paint The Town festivities in September. All are encouraged to revisit the trail during that time to witness the change and growth of the work, and participate as many times as they would like.
