Photographed by City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, beginning construction of a new steel frame/wood deck foot bridge is under way.  It will be installed in Kelly Park.  According to CA Dykhuizen, the estimated completion date is “by the end of the the school year.  Site work will be completed by the City shortly after:  concrete repair, fixing the asphalt trail, and grass seeding.”

Workers removed the old bridge, which sat low to the ground and became compromised by water.  Currently, the area is being dredged and prepared to pour the bridge’s foundation.

The collaborative project–initiated by local resident and Whiteside County Highway Department Engineer Russ Renner–is made possible by

  • Morrison Community Unit School District #6
  • Whiteside County Highway Department
  • City of Morrison
  • private parties and groups
  • regional funding partners (Friends of the Parks; ISPE engineering association; Morrison Area Community Foundation; Morrison Rotary.)

Renner also serves as Project Manager for the bridge.  Morrison High School students designed and will build the new bridge.  It will be fabricated at the Whiteside Area Career Center.
