The DeKalb County Swim Team hosted their Winter Classic Swim Meet at the Kishwaukee, IL, YMCA on Friday, February 6, through Sunday, February 8, 2015. Fifteen Seahorses participated in the meet, and they all did a fantastic job! Medals were awarded to 1st through 8th place; ribbons were awarded to 9th through 16th place. The Seahorses brought home 30 medals and 40 ribbons, and they swam a total of 86 Lifetime Best swims! Many swimmers also accomplished their goals by qualifying for Regionals or State at this meet.
These swimmers qualified for Regionals: BayLeigh Brewer (200 IM), Schyon Drolema (200 IM, 500 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Free, and 50 Breast,) Kate Henson (100 Fly), and Gracen Harmon (100 Free and 100 Fly.) These swimmers qualified for State: Skylar Drolema (200 Free) and Kate Henson (200 IM, 200 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Back.) Henson also won the 9 – 10 Girl’s High Point Trophy. Skylar Drolema broke the Seahorse record that was held by Josh Olson in the 100 Fly, which Olson set in 1985. Skylar beat this 30-year-old record by rwo seconds!
Congratulations to Coach Chelsea and all the Seahorses on an amazing meet! The Seahorses’ next meet will be the Illinois Swimming Regional Championship Meet in Elgin, IL, on Friday, February 27, through Sunday, March 1.
