This years topic for the Whiteside Forum’s Annual Conference on Friday, April 24, 2015, will be “Mass Media in Modern Society: National and International News and Issues.” Do you believe a well-informed electorate is essential to a functioning Democracy? Do you wonder where to find the truth or information that matters and is relevant? Are you concerned about the future of journalism? Then, you will have an interest in our program.
We will convene at the Community Room of the Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with registration. The program begins at 7:30 with introduction of speakers. Audience participation is essential, so we will finish the evening with a moderated question-and-answer period with our panel.
This event is free and open to the public due to generous support of our members.
Our moderator for the event will be Alan Sivell, left, former newscaster and reporter for WQAD TV, and Assistant Professor of Communication at St. Ambrose University for the past 20 years. Alan was also on our panel discussion concentrating on “Local news,” that was held in January of this year.
Our panel members include Nancy Benson from the University of Illinois and Elio Leturia from Columbia College Chicago.
- Benson is an Associate Professor of Journalism, with course specialities in International Journalism, and is a former anchor and reporter for WMAQ radio in Chicago, IL.
- Leturia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism where he teaches Multimedia Journalism. He has worked as a Journalist/Graphic Artist at the Detroit Free Press, !Exito!/Chicago Tribune, and El Comercio in Lima, Peru.
