On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications received a 911 call. It reported a two-vehicle crash on Polo Road at the intersection of Holly Road, rural Sterling, IL.
Initial investigation by responding Deputies determined a blue, GMC crossover, driven by 31-year-old Aleena Hammelman of Milledgeville, IL, was traveling northbound on Polo Road and had stopped at the intersection on Holly Road. Hammelman proceeded northbound through the intersection, failing to yield to a black Harley-Davison, driven by 76-year-old Jose Trevino, Sr. of Dixon, IL, who was traveling eastbound through the intersection. No occupants of the GMC were injured. However, Trevino suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital via helicopter.
Hammelman was issued a traffic citation for Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign intersection.
