FinestHours

Coast Guard sailor Bernie Webber, played by Chris Pine, is a strong, silent type who finds himself in command of a Massachusetts’ rescue boat, when a nor’easter wreaks havoc on the winter waters off Cape Cod, MA.

The ship in distress is the SS Pendleton, an oil tanker that has split in half due to the storm.  That leaves the Pendleton’s Chief Engineer Ray Sybert, played by Casey Affleck, in charge of the survivors.  Nine of the Pendleton’s 41 crew were already lost.

Webber must head out to sea at night in a flimsy motor lifeboat.  The wooden, 36-foot rescue boat can barely handle a dozen men.  How will it fit 32 survivors?  It is a suicide mission.

Before the lifeboat can even reach the Pendleton, it has to make it past the lethal Chatham Bars.  Crashing waves threaten to run the small boat aground.  Yet it is on these dangerous waves that “The Finest Hours” finds its sea legs and delivers an old-school adventure based on an heroic deliverance.

The exciting drama comes with pop and popcorn.  There is no charge, but all donations are welcome, as they support the rental of movies.
