Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Executive Order to dismantle the U. S. Department of Education.
“Education is the foundation of opportunity for every child. Eliminating the Department of Education would strip important funding from our public schools, weaken protections for students with disabilities, and make college less accessible for hardworking families.
“It would also undermine rural schools across Illinois, that rely on Federal support to keep classrooms open and teachers employed,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen.
“Working Illinois families sent me to Congress to protect their interests. Our children deserve better than political stunts that jeopardize their education. I’ll do everything in my power to fight this attack on public education, and make sure every student has the resources they need to succeed.”
