Prepare to laugh and sing along, if you are inspired, as Sister Act takes the stage.  On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, Odell Public Library will present the comedy “Sister Act,” starring Whoopi Goldberg   This film is filled with humor and captivating music.  The movie begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Program Room, 307 S, Madison Street, Morrison, IL.

There is no charge; popcorn and pop are served.  Donations are welcome to help offset the costs.

Whoopi Goldberg (Deloris Van Cartier) is a former lounge singer hiding out in a convent.  She is on the run from her mobster boyfriend, who has committed a serious crime.  She is placed in the convent by a good-hearted Policeman.  Mother Superior cannot stand Deloris’s loud clothes and vulgar manners.  So, to keep her in line, Mother Superior places Deloris in the choir as the Choirmaster.  She teaches the nuns slightly modified versions of songs such as, “My Guy” and “I Will Follow Him.”

This gospel music attracts hordes of extra churchgoers, who love the hip and joyous music.

Goldberg starts out with some tough talk, but this turns out to be one of her most lovable roles.  She complains bitterly about the food and early wake up calls.  She bungles the prayers.  But she eventually develops a soft spot for the women who she first described as “penguins.”

Of course, the singing nuns of the convent become quite famous and wind up on the covers of National magazines.

Join us and clap along to the enthusiastic music of “Sister Act.”
