LionThe movie “Lion” is the incredible and moving true story of two profound and remarkable journeys.  One took Saroo Brierley far away from home, and another brought him back.  “Lion” was a 2017 Academy Award nominated film and is a heart-warming story of love and perseverance.

Friends of Odell Public Library will present this wonderful film on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., in the Program Room of the Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Sttreet, Morrison, IL.

The first half of the movie depicts the travels of young Saroo, just five years old when he becomes separated from his older brother at a train station.  The lad ends up on a decommissioned train 900 miles away in Kolkata.  Saroo is alone on the street, not speaking the language, and alone.  Later he is found and is placed in an orphanage.  An Australian couple that lives on the island of Tasmania adopt him and take him even further from home.

Saroo grows into a young hospitality management student in Melbourne, Australia.  He is a man caught between two worlds, two cultures, and two families.  Triggers of memories send him down a rabbit hole of searching and scouring Google Earth, for landmarks he might remember.

The return journey, delayed over two decades, follows an emotional trip of the adult Saroo.  He uses modern technology to find his village, travel across the ocean, and find his family.

There is no charge; however, donations are welcome and help defray the costs.
