Marshall Blevins took the photograph.

On the third Sunday of Advent, the Sanctuary of Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W, Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, was transformed into a life size Nativity scene, complete with towering starlit stable. On December 11, 13 youngsters ages two-through-High School, were dressed in attractive costumes for the 9:00 a.m. worship service. Each was set to portray the discovery of a newborn Savior in Bethlehem.

Executive Producer Kelly Kohl sourced the play and created 15 parts. Denise Smith served as Director; Carole Patton was the Producer. Music Director John Frame led the Prayer Song and Choir Anthem.

Narrator, Annabelle Blevins–at the podium behind the actors–recited the Bible story. The text signaled characters to enter the scene, and for the congregation to sing appropriate carols. The reverent performers were still and quiet throughout.

Left-to-right are Angels, Leanne Peavy, Coraline Rider, and Emmeline Rider; Joseph, Evan McDonald; Angel with star, Taylor Osborn; Mary, Sarah Osborn; Shepherd, Karalynn Kirkpatrick; in the background is Narrator, Blevins; Kings, Isaac Blevins, Logan Peavy, and Cameron McDonald.

Sheep,Theodore Larsen sat in his mother’s lap. Two-year-old Sungho Ahn was dressed as a Sheep, but he also did not join the Shepherds. He walked down the aisle, leading the recessional, after the program, holding Patton’s hand. Angels/Sisters, Peyton Lowery and Riley Oncken were unable to attend.

Pastor Sun-Ah Kang performed the rite of Baptism for five children of Kayleen and Matthew Mecum. They included Jonathan and Karalynn Kirkpatrick, Leanne and Logan Peavy, and infant Benjamin Mecum. The baby responded with a frown, because of his wet head, as Pastor Kang handed him back to his mother–but Benjamin did not cry.

Congratulations and holiday wishes were exchanged in Heritage Hall with refreshments. All children received a treat bag.

All are cordially invited to attend Morrison United Methodist Church. Sunday Church Service and Sunday School are both held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Nursery care is provided.
