Lewis J. Beggs, Jr., age 89, passed at his son Dewey R. Beggs’s home, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Lewis lived with Dewey six years prior to his passing.
Lewis was born on June 22, 1935, in Sterling, IL, the son of Lewis and Florence (Anderson) Beggs, Sr. He married Patricia M. Dale on July 30, 1954, in Sterling. She preceded him in death on September 22, 2012. Lewis worked for the CNW/UP Railroad for 42 years. He was a member of First Nazarene Church in Sterling. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting as well.
Survivors include his daughter, Candy (Albert) Baker of Sterling; sons, Lewis (Karen) Beggs III of Sterling and Dewey (Penny) Beggs of Rock Falls, IL; sisters, Lucy Rice of Coleta, IL, and Peggy (Donald) Beswick of Morrison, IL; brother, Timothy (Sonja) McEvoy of Rock Falls; five grandchildren, Andrew Beggs, Patricia Manning, Dominic Koester, Thomas Beggs, and Ashley Mulryan; three step-grandchildren Nathan Disher, Kurt Disher, and Kayla Gamester; one foster grandchild, Bryan Thomas, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At Lewis’s request his body has been donated to medical science.
