Leland Conrad Swanson, age 90, of Fulton, IL, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, IL.
Leland was born June 28, 1935, near Albany, IL, he son of Alfred Conrad and Edith (Ross) Swanson. He attended Stone Street School in rural Albany and was a 1953 graduate of Fulton High School. He participated in the Boys State Program sponsored by the American Legion in 1961. Leland married Eunice Huizenga on May 4, 1955, at Newton Zion Reformed Church near Erie, IL. He farmed for 14 years in the Albany area, and then the family moved to Fulton. Leland worked for J & D Construction in Fulton from 1969 to 1983; he was also a self-employed carpenter in the Fulton area. Leland was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church. He was a person of deep faith.
Leland and Eunice had the opportunity to travel to Sweden on several occasions. He enjoyed seeing the places where his Swedish ancestors lived and visiting with relatives. He assisted with assorted community projects ,including Heritage Canyon, and he served as a volunteer miller at de Immigrant windmill in Fulton for many years. Leland and Eunice began spending their winters in Florida about 20 years ago. They enjoyed activities at their mobile home parks and socializing with new friends. Leland was proud of his family and really enjoyed spending time with them and attending their events. In his spare time, he was frequently involved with renovation projects for family and friends. He liked attending local sporting events and would also follow his favorite sports teams on television.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Swanson of Fulton; daughter, Melinda (Michael) Kramer of Fulton; sons, Michael Swanson of Moline, IL, and Marc (Paula) Swanson of Wheeling, IL; brothers, Roland Swanson and William (Deb) Swanson, both of Morrison, IL; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Leland had special friends who meant a lot to him. Among these are Franklin King of Elk Grove Village, IL, Kevin Huggins of Albany, and Laura Tichler of Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elsie Swanson; brothers, John, Howard, and David Swanson.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 26, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at McDonald Funeral Home, 1601 16th Avenue, in Fulton, IL.
The Funeral will be Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with an additional Visitation time prior to the service, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., at Fulton Presbyterian Church, 311 9th Street, Fulton, IL.
Burial will be at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
Memorials have been established for Fulton Presbyterian Church and the Fidelity/Drives Building Fund.
