HollisterFamilyOdell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, will host local author Josh Hollister and his canine companion, Slim, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., in the Program Room. Hollister will share a reading of his newly published novel, Luke Long Ears and the Eyes of Aten

The adventure tale began as a bedtime story for Hollister’s two sons.  It is a humorous conglomeration of history, mystery, and Basset Hounds.  Although the book is classified as junior fiction, all ages are welcome to enjoy a reading and visit with the dogs.

Signed copies of Hollister’s book will be available for purchase as well as for check out from the library.

The novel chronicles Max the Basset Hound, as he assumes the role of boundary-free, historical investigator, Luke Long Ears.  Readers will follow Max on a dangerously fun–and funny–adventure, to uncover a mythical Egyptian artifact that may have belonged to Pharaoh Akhenaten.  Max will have to outwit his foes with his knowledge of ancient history to escape the perils ahead.

Hollister is a long-time resident of Morrison and currently teaches History and Special Education at Clinton[, IA,] High School.  Luke Long Ears is his first novel, but his sons are already clamoring for a sequel.  Although the author isn’t sure Luke will reach the best seller list, he states, “If it encourages one child to want to learn more about history, then it has served its purpose.”

To add to the fun, a local representative of the Guardian Angels Basset Rescue will be on hand to answer any questions about the breed and show off a few more lovable canine companions.

The program is free, but guests are welcome to bring a non-perishable dog item or monetary donation for the rescue.
