The Sterling Police Department, Rock Falls Police Department, and Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office are encouraging families to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween.

Official Trick-or-Treating Hours:  Friday, October 31, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00.

Safety Reminders for Parents and Children

To help ensure a safe Halloween for everyone, please keep the following safety recommendations in mind.

  • Costumes:  Choose costumes of proper length to avoid tripping hazards.  Add reflective tape or material for better visibility.
  • Masks:  Make sure masks fit properly and allow clear vision.
  • Supervision:  Parents are encouraged to accompany young children and know [older children’s] planned route.
  • Lighting:  Go out during daylight hours when possible.  Carry a flashlight if trick-or-treating after dark.
  • Traffic Awareness:  Watch for vehicles and use caution when crossing streets.  Drivers are urged to stay alert for increased pedestrian traffic.
  • Candy Safety:  Only accept wrapped or sealed treats.  Inspect all candy before eating–if something looks suspicious, don’t eat it.

If you see anything suspicious or encounter potentially dangerous activity, please report it immediately to your local Police Department.  Your safety is our top priority.

Have a SAFE and happy Hallowe’en!
