Luanne Bruckner submitted the District II report.
Thirteen members of Carroll Jo Daviess Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently welcomed District II Director, Dawn Wexell, of Sycamore, IL, to brunch at the Mt. Carroll Community Center, in Mt. Carroll, IL. She discussed membership and the effects of enthusiasm and kindness to a chapter. Director Wexell holds a wreath made by District II Regent Connie Foster, to Wexell’s left. Hand-crafted wreaths will be donated to veteran residents of care facilities.
District II Daughters are residents of Jo Daviess, Carroll, Stephenson, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties. They voted again to take part in the “Wreaths Across America” December ceremony; it is a Nation-wide DAR initiative. District II volunteers will help lay wreathes on 200+ veterans’ graves at Lusk Cemetery in Albany, IL.
Another project will be to mark the Thomson Upper York Cemetery Daughters of Revolutionary War soldiers next year. At present there are six women buried in Upper York, whose male ancestors served in the Revolutionary War.
Anyone who is descended from an early settler, who was a daughter of a Revolutionary Patriot, is urged to contact Gwen Smith at 815-275-7362 or Luanne Bruckner at 815-259-3168. Area DAR members strive to mark all qualifying graves before they are lost to remembrance..
