D. Marc Gibson, age 54, of Kaneville, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Marc was born May 25, 1971, in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Darryl and Lelia Book Gibson. In his early years, Marc lived in South Bend, IN. At six years old, moved with his family to the family farm in Prophetstown, IL, where he attended local schools and graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1989. He was a member of the Football team and the Band. He was very active in local Boy Scouts with Troop 94 and attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia in 1985. Marc also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1989. He was extremely proud of his Boy Scout accomplishments.
After high school, Marc attended Sauk Valley Community College, where he obtained an Associate’s Degree in Electronics. While at Sauk he began his Pilot Ground School training, then continued onto Flight School at Cushing Field in Newark, IL, where he earned his Private Pilot and Instrument licenses. Marc made a career out of his passion for aviation, working for Lumanair at the Aurora Airport, Planemasters at the DuPage Airport for 18 years, and most recently with Wheels Up since 2015. He particularly enjoyed flying charter clients, because he got to meet and interact with a variety of people, many of whom were well-known.
Marc lived life to the fullest. He was a loyal attendee at the annual EAA AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, WI, where he often worked at the Warbirds Tower and hosted a BBQ for friends. He also enjoyed attending Jimmy Buffett concerts; having backyard bonfires with friends, neighbors, and family; going to various events for his nieces and nephew. Marc was very loyal and generous to family and friends. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.
Marc may have left the farm, but the farm never left him. He helped his father with various projects throughout the years and nearly every fall assisted with harvest. He especially liked driving the combine.
Marc is survived by his parents, Darryl and Lelia Gibson of Prophetstown; sisters, Sara (Randy) Glassgow of Bettendorf, IA, and Molly (Rob) Francesconi of St. Charles, IL; nephew, Nick Francesconi and nieces Allison Francesconi and Ellie Glassgow; long time girlfriend, Melanie Schroeder and her children, Brandon and Lindsey, of Morrison, IL; faithful dog, Aerial; aunts, uncles, cousins; countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Lola Book; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Evelyn Gibson.
A memorial Visitation will be at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce Street, Elburn, IL, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 22, 2025. An additional memorial Visitation will be hosted in Prophetstown at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, 320 Lafayette Street, Prophetstown, IL, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 5, 2025. A private burial will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Marc’s honor with Prophetstown Boy Scout Troop 94.
