Carol J. (Foster) Wiersema, 85, of Morrison, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Homestead Assisted Living & Memory Care of Morrison.
Carol was born June 17, 1939, in Davenport, IA, to Albert and Gertrude (Voss) Foster. She graduated from Erie High School in 1957 and went on to study education at college in Pella, IA. On June 1, 1962, she married Arlyn “Dale” Wiersema at Newton Zion Reformed Church in rural Erie, IL. They shared their lives for over 50 years, before his passing on October 4, 2019. Carol worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Brookstra in Fulton, IL, before moving to Colorado, where she worked for Dr. Moline. After relocating to Minnesota, she served as a Paraeducator at Golden Lake Elementary School in Circle Pines, MN. Carol was a lifelong member of Sweet Adelines International and traveled the Country performing in Barbershop Chorus competitions. She was also a member of Faith Christian Reformed Church in New Brighton, MN. In her free time, Carol enjoyed Golfing, camping with her family on annual Memorial Day weekends, and traveling–especially on Caribbean cruises. She also volunteered her time at local schools, sharing lunch and reading time with at-risk youth, finding such joy sharing her gifts, in supporting children through these simple, but meaningful, interactions.
Survivors include her son, Troy Wiersema of Fulton; sister, Evelyn (Harlan) Schaver of Fulton; sister-in-law, Marcia Renkes of Morrison; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gertrude Foster; in-laws, John “Bud” and Esther Wiersema; husband, Dale.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Fulton Presbyterian Church in Fulton, IL.
Her Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Ken Renkes officiating. At the family’s request, this service will also honor the life and memory of Carol’s beloved husband, Dale Wiersema, who passed away in 2019. It was their wish to be remembered together, and this joint memorial will celebrate both of their lives.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL.
