The Black Box, Theatre is excited to announce the cast for their upcoming production of the musical “Baby” by David Shire and Richard Maltby Jr. Show dates are from Thursday, June 14, to Saturday, June 23, 2018, with shows Thursday-through-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 and available online at theblackboxtheatre.com.
The story follows three parents-to-be as they “experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, as well as the desperate lows and the comic highs that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby.” The show was developed with Susan Yankowitz from a book by Sybille Pearson. The musical first ran on Broadway from 1983 to 1984.
Frank Rich, theatre critic for The New York Times wrote, “At a time when nearly every Broadway musical, good and bad, aims for the big kill with gargantuan pyrotechnics, here is a modestly scaled entertainment, that woos us with such basic commodities as warm feelings, an exuberant cast, and a lovely score.”
The Black Box cast includes:
- Kelci Eaton
- Chase Austin
- Joanna Brewer
- Ian Sodawasser
- Emmalee Hilburn
- Kirsten Myers
- Brant Peitersen
- Julie Hummel
- Joseph Wren
- Sara Laufer.
The production will be directed by Black Box co-founder David M. Miller, with music direction by Kyle Schneider.
“It is always wonderful when our casts are made up of new faces, while some are returning to our stage,” said Director Miller. “We hope that people will get their tickets early, as our last two shows sold out each performance,” Miller said.
