Over many months, Morrison Historical Society Board of Trustees searched for a contractor to rebuild the front entrance brickwork and repair steps, at Morrison’s Heritage Museum.  On March 30, 2025, Enrique (Leo) Gonzalez, owner of SRG Masonry and Tuckpointing, brought three men to 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.  His trio made demolition and rebuilding happen in a short time.  The first photo shows their arrival day; site setup of materials; removal of the outer bricks.

Gonzalez has owned the business since 2015.  He said his team works “all around the area:  Amboy, Chadwick, Morrison, Milledgeville, Polo, Rock Falls, Shannon, and Sterling,” IL.  Contact Leo Gonzales at SRG Masonry and Tuckpointing by email (enrique1083@icloud.com) or phone (312-451-9026.)

A few days later, the Editor photographed the men:  left-to-right, Rodrigo; Fabian; owner Gonzalez; Angel.

There were voids and collapsed brick in the kneewalls, which support the steps.  This required removal of unsound brick; cleaning away the debris; creating a fresh series of masonry rows.  Fabian skillfully lead the way on these tasks.

Rodrigo illustrated to Angel how to jackhammer the sill.

The construction was wrapped in advance of rain.

Fabian meticulously tuckpointed the mortar into the grooves between bricks he had installed.

The final labor gave “a new look.”  All step surfaces were skim-coated with concrete.  Then side, kneewalls were painted white by owner Enrique Gonzalez.  Email him if you have a similar repair need:  enrique1083@icloud.com.
