On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a reported death threat, made against a Judge of the 14th Judicial Circuit. During the investigation, Deputies identified a suspect, Alexander A. Lopez, age 30, who attempted to purchase a handgun at a business in Whiteside County earlier that same day.
Deputies continued gathering evidence throughout the day. Based on the information obtained, an arrest warrant was issued on Friday, October 31, for Threatening a Public Official.
On Sunday, November 12, 2025, Lopez was located and arrested on the outstanding warrant. He was transported to the Whiteside County Jail for further proceedings.
Lopez appeared in Whiteside County Court on Thursday, November 13, where the court ordered a fitness evaluation. He remains held in the Whiteside County Jail pending further court action.
Whiteside County takes all threats–especially those directed at Judges and public officials–extremely seriously.
Statement from Sheriff John F. Booker, “Any threat against a Judge is an attack on the rule of law itself. We will act swiftly, firmly, and without hesitation to protect our courts, our community, and the people who serve it. If you threaten a public official in Whiteside County, expect to be held accountable.”
The charge in this case is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent, until proven guilty in a court of law.
