The Morrison Pinochle Card Club is celebrating its third year anniversary. It was started in the fall of 2022 by two neighbors, Paula Schares and Lisa Leipus. Originally called “Henry Road Pinochle Club,” the group met at Schares’ house, where friends and neighbors were invited to play. Paula taught several people in the first few months.
In January 2023, the group moved to Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, where it has grown to 25 members of various skill levels.
Schares says, “Some of us have been playing since we were kids. The group has taught over a dozen people to play over the years, so no experience is necessary to join the club. People who have played before adapt to the rules the group has agreed on, because there are many versions of the game out there. Pinochle a great way to use your brain and socialize. Newcomers are always welcome to join us.”
This activity is free, because the Library lets us use the space, and the cards are provided by Whiteside County Senior Center, which sponsors the group.
We meet at the Odell Library every Monday at 1:00 p.m. For more information, contact Paula Schares at tpschares@gmail.com or text 309-380-8536.
