Quiet and serene, the only sounds filling the air were the gentle songs of birds. This hidden hideaway, belonging to Pat and Bill Anderson, was truly a delight to discover. Nestled away, their beautiful yard was chosen as July’s Featured Garden, a nomination made by Stephanie Vavra. The Andersons have cherished their home at 16050 Strawberry Road for 28 years, cultivating a peaceful retreat that reflects their love for nature and tranquility.
They weren’t very interested in flower gardens until they moved into this home. The backyard featured two, long flower beds running along the spacious deck. Bill managed to gather stones from an old barn foundation on an old family farm, and using those stones, they created two charming walkways. They planted a variety of perennials, including Hostas, Lilies, and ground covers, which brought vibrant life to the space.
Over the years, they added whimsical decorations that give the garden a unique personality. In the photos, you can also spot a lovely garden shed that complements the setting perfectly. Don’t miss the small stool tucked nearby it’s the perfect spot for bird watching. Even their puppy, Gabby, seems to love spending time on the back deck and in the yard, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
Over the years, they slowly transformed their front yard into a charming garden. Near the driveway, a spacious flower bed blossomed with colorful perennials, adding vibrant life to the space. Beneath a shady tree, a smaller flower bed took shape, where two stunning Hostas and delicate lilies thrived. Both beds were thoughtfully decorated with unique touches, including pieces of driftwood that brought a natural, rustic charm. To give the flower beds a defined look, Bill crafted simple fencing, perfectly framing the blooms and enhancing the overall beauty of their garden.
Check out the photo of the antique knife sharpener sitting near the house. I found that piece incredibly fascinating. Its design tells stories of years past, hinting at the hands that once used it daily. It’s amazing how such a tool can carry so much history and character, adding a unique charm to the place!
Since 1948, Morrison Garden Club has fostered a love for gardening and civic pride in the community. Their efforts include tree planting programs, youth clubs, beautifying public spaces, garden walks, floral shows, and more. Today, they continue to thrive with annual plant sales, maintaining Odell Public Library landscaping, and seasonal plantings in Veterans Park and other local spots.
The Morrison Garden Club warmly welcomes anyone with a passion for gardening to join their friendly group. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, with locations varying based on the program or space needs.
