On Thursday, November 21, 2024, former Morrison Interim Superintendent of Schools Alan Boucher had written, “I am happy to announce that the Board voted to hire Dr. Matthew DeBaene /duh-BANE/ at a special meeting held last evening. Dr. DeBaene is currently an Assistant Superintendent at Moline[, IL,] Coal Valley School District and will begin his duties on July 1, 2025. The Board established a three-year contract with Dr. DeBaene.
“[He] grew up and currently lives in the Quad City region. He is a seasoned Educator with a passion for fostering learning and growth. He’s excited to take on the role of Superintendent of the Morrison School District, and is excited to work with our schools and community. Prior to joining the Moline Coal Valley School District, Dr. DeBaene was the Principal of Geneseo[, IL,] Middle School. He…served public schools as Assistant Principal, English Language Arts Teacher, Coach, Teacher Leader, and Athletic Director. He earned Bachelors and Graduate degrees from Western Illinois University and has received the Arnold W. Salisbury Award for Educational Leadership. Dr. DeBaene enjoys spending quality time with his family; staying active through running; immersing himself in good books; learning. He is excited to be a part of the Morrison team and looks forward to working with everyone.”
On Day One, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Matthew DeBaene spoke at the Morrison Kiwanis Club meeting, in the Odell Public Library Program Room. He thanked Kiwanis and Key Club members for their service. At left, President Steve Davis hands Key Club President Abbie Weston a check for $400. DeBaene held the Key Club sign.
