Mayor Scott Vandermyde performed the swearing in ceremony for the new Morrison Chief of Police, Michael Moon, to open the June 23, 2025, meeting of the Morrison City Council.
“The Council of the City of Morrison, Whiteside County, Illinois, is committed to the enhancement of the vitality and economic growth of the City.” With this statement in mind the Council unanimously approved Ordinance 25-06 that permits the establishment of sidewalk cafes. The ordinance defines the parameters under which sidewalk cafes may be established, with guidelines restricting the placement and coordination of the sidewalk furniture and the general management of the entity. Discussion that followed stated that the proposed furniture must be approved by the City Administration prior to usage.
In closing, the Council discussed the annexation proposal for the 9.38 acres of land adjacent to the Morrison Tech campus, on S. Route 78. Following the details of annexation into the City limits, the Council voted unanimously to proceed with the process of annexation. It will be brought forward for the official vote at a future meeting.
The meeting closed and moved into a Closed Session to discuss the compensation of the interim Chief of Police.
Morrison City Council convenes at Odell Public Library, in the City of Morrison Community Room, 307 S. Madison Street, at 6:30 p.m., on the second and fourth Monday of each month and invites the public to attend.
