On a mild, sunny spring day, west of Morrison, IL, scores of people gathered on benches at long tables under a large tent, at the Yoder residence, 9108 W. Lincoln Road (IL Route 30), in rural Fulton, IL. They came to eat supper and donate to fund supplies for the Amish Parochial School, during a community-wide “Good Home Cooked Dinner and Bake Sale.” Carry-out food was available.

The dinner was held Friday, May 23, 2025, from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. Several young men deftly guided vehicles to grassy parking areas. Youths kept hot pans filled with food and bowls filled with ice cream.
A grilled beef patty-on-a-bun could be adorned with cheese, vegetables (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles), and condiments (mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, or barbecue sauce.) Cheesy shredded potatoes, baked beans with bacon, crisp coleslaw, choice of dessert, and water or soft drink completed the meal. Donation boxes received the money.
Different men ran–or watched–a gas-powered engine. It churned out numerous gallons of vanilla ice cream. Toppings were available.
Cinnamon rolls, loaves of bread, and pies were sold. The greenhouse offered fragrant petunias, other potted flowers, peppers, and other green things for sale.
Most folks had departed by 7:15. These boys entertained themselves at a fence. Others kept the swings swaying.
