Signifying the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday services will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the following six Morrison, IL, churches. The public is welcome to attend any service, morning or evening.
The ashes to be used in the ritual of Imposition on a worshiper’s forehead have been in waiting, for over a year. They are the burned remains of celebratory palm fronds carried on Palm Sunday last year. Often, a small amount of oil is mixed in, to make the ashes adhere to a worshiper’s skin.
• Bethesda Lutheran Church, 301 W. South Street, offers a 7:00 p.m. message, Imposition of Ashes, and Holy Communion.
• First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, 100 E. Lincolnway, offers a 7:00 p.m. service with Imposition of Ashes.
• Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, offers a 7:00 p.m. service with Imposition of Ashes.
• St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 401 N. Cherry Street, offers 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes.
• St. Mary Catholic Church, 13320 Garden Plain Road, offers an 8:15 a.m. and a 6:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.
• St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS, 601 N. Jackson Street, offers a 6:30 p.m. service with Imposition of Ashes. (Note: Wednesday Lenten services will be held at 6:30 p.m.; Sunday services are at 9:30 a.m.)
