On Monday, December 18, 2023, one item for consideration was proposed to protect students and staff. Assistant Editor Jerry Lindsey’s report stated, “Bob Sondgerroth presented the cost and effects of securing all school classrooms with ‘FlipLok’ products. Such secondary, locking devices offer each room a security device to prevent the intrusion of uninvited visitors who could threaten the occupants.”

Superintendent of School Scott Vance was asked by the Editor to expand on the details of this possible safety initiative. His response follows.

“I got your voicemail regarding the FlipLok presentation. The cost of the device is approximately $250 per door; we are estimating between 100 and 150 doors. The cost of installation is roughly $90. They would be installed by the company. So, the overall costs would be between $30,000 and $35,000.

“Should the Board move forward with the project, they would be using bond dollars….No revenue from the Education Fund would be used.”
