National Wound Care Awareness Week is Monday, June 2, through Friday, June 6, 2014. The CGH Wound Healing Center (CGH WHC), a member of the Healogics network, is participating in the first Healogics National Wound Care Awareness Week. One of nearly 600 Healogics managed centers, CGH WHC offers advanced therapies to patients suffering from chronic wounds. Program directors will dedicate the entire week to visiting local physician offices, to educate staff to identify patients that may benefit from advanced wound care.
Chronic wounds affect millions of people in the U. S., and the incidence is rising. This is fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and the late effects of radiation therapy. Untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possible amputation of the affected limb.
“There are many patients living with non-healing wounds, who are unaware of treatments available in our community,” said Jason Green, Director of the CGH Wound Healing Center. Chief Medical Director for Healogics, D. Scott Covington, MD, FACS says, “Adjunctive therapies for appropriate patients can help heal wounds faster than traditional methods. We want to make advanced wound care available to all patients who would benefit, but we must educate the communities we serve about the services we offer.”
The CGH Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Center is in the top 15% of wound centers Nationwide. For the past three years, they have received the “Center of Distinction Award” and for the second year are receiving a “Center of Excellence” Award. This award is given to top wound care centers that excel in key performance indicators.
