A writer named Adrian Messenger believes a series of unrelated deaths are linked.  He asks his friend Anthony Gethryn, played by George C Scott, a former member of London’s illustrious MI5, to help clear up the mystery by providing a list of the victims’ names.  Soon afterward, Messenger’s plane is bombed, while he is traveling to collect evidence.  He tried to tell a fellow passenger the key to the mystery with his dying breath.

The passenger survives and is Gethryn’s former WWII counterpart in the French Resistance.  They join forces and decode Messenger’s final words.  The men establish that all the names on the list were in a Prisoner of War camp in Burma.  While there, a Canadian Sergeant, George Brougham, (Kirk Douglas) had betrayed then in their escape attempt.  The 11 men and their knowledge are now obstacles to Brougham’s acquisition of a huge fortune.

And the plot thickens!

Join us for an afternoon of mystery at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.  Popcorn and pop will accompany the film.
