Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, the main hall inside Morrison Junior High School, 300 Academic Drive, Morrison, IL, became filled with student well-wishers.  They created a “good luck” gauntlet for eight athletes to traverse:  Blake Adams; Logan Baker; Schyler Drolema; Erika King; DaeShaun McQueen; Chase Newman; Camden Pruis; Jimmy Wadsworth.

On similar occasions Junior High Principal Joe Robbins stated, “As we have done in the past, we will give our State [Track and Field qualilfiers] a send-off…[before] they leave to represent themselves, their school, and their District at the IESA State [Class 2A State Track and Field] Meet.  Our students will…form a parade tunnel to see them off.”

One girl and seven boys appeared atop the stairs and advanced to the iconic film theme from “Rocky.”  Hands were clapped and slapped as the teams processed to the lobby.  They wore Morrison Track and Field t-shirts with a Wingfoot motif.

One of the gods of mythology was known to the ancient Romans as Mercury and to the Greeks as Hermes.  Mercury was the god of trade and commerce.  It was as a swift messenger for all the gods of mythology that he was best known.

Sharing a moment together before school dismissed, are, left-to-right, front row, Coach Stephanie Shelton, Camden Pruis; DaeShaun McQueen; Chase Newman; Logan Baker; Jimmy Wadsworth; back row, Coaches Dennis Weston and Kerry Grimm; Schyler Drolema; Blake Adams; Erika King.

Wadsworth is a sixth grader who qualified in the seventh grade Long Jump.  He and King have contests on Friday, May 17.  The other boys complete Saturday, May 18, at the Eastside Center in East Peoria, IL.
