HRRVLogoComfort Zone Family Grief Camp is a unique and innovative session, designed specifically for parents and children who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  The mission of camp is to provide children with the resources to help them cope with their grief and allow them to spend time with other children who are experiencing a similar situation.

Children grieve differently from adults, and that grieving has no set time frame.  A common misconception is that bereavement camps are full of tears and sadness.  Not true!  Camp is full of fun, good times, and friendship.  Most kids don’t realize they are not alone in their sorrow, until they come to camp.

Camp registrations are due by Monday, July 30, 2018, and can be made by calling Cynthia at 815-625-3858.

“We want each child who attends our camp to leave with a sense of hope [and knowledge] that they are not alone in their grief.  We hope that they will continue to seek help in their journey towards healing,” said Cynthia Stringer, Rock River Hospice and Home Grief Counselor and Camp Coordinator.  “This year we have modified the camp experience, to make it more of a family event by including parents.  The adults will have a separate break-out session, which will offer them tips and ideas to help their children through the grieving process.”

Our service is available to all children between six and 13 years of age who have experienced a loss and need support.  A mixture of fun activities allows children to express feelings and concerns, identify supportive people, and fiDn appropriate ways to use memories, for healing and growth.  We use the theme of offering true hope for their futures.

Since loss knows no bounds, our camp is provided free of charge to all.  The camp is sponsored and facilitated by Rock River Hospice and Home, an agency of United Way of Whiteside and Lee Counties.

Comfort Zone Family Grief Camp will be held from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church located at 410 Second Ave, Sterling, IL, and is hosted by Rock River Hospice and Home (RRHH). A light meal will be provided.
