Morrison Lions Club will be participating in the third annual Back to School Bash sponsored by Morrison Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, August 5, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  The event will be at Morrison Institute of Technology, 701 Portland Avenue, Morrison, IL.  Be sure to stop by the Lions Booth to “spin the wheel” and get a prize.

The installation of officers for the 2017-2018 year will be held on Tuesday, August 29, at the Forest Inn.  Social hour will start at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30.  Past District Governor Ruth Lyle will be the installing officer.

Eye glass assistance was approved for a local resident.  The club also approved a motion to sponsor a T-Ball team this summer.  The last game was held Saturday, July 29, and Denice Smith helped present awards to our team.

The winner of the 2017 Lions Club Scholarship, Jaeden Workman, was a guest at the last meeting of the Lions club year 2016/2017.  She will attend Illinois State University with a vision of being a fifth grade teacher and hopefully do some coaching.  She has been an active participant in sports during her high school days.  Her desire to coach comes from that involvement.  President Tracy Muur, left, is shown with Workman and Keith Hamstra, a member of the scholarship committee.

The club also welcomed a new member, Trevan Burn.  He is the son of Lion Karla Burn and recently graduated from college.  He is employed by CGH as a physical therapist.  President Muur, left, is shown with Karla Burn, mother and sponsor of new member, Trevan Burn.

Club members were presented with information on a Legacy project to commemorate Lions International 100 year anniversary.  Lions International held their 100 year anniversary in Chicago, IL, from Friday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 4, with over 30,000 Lions from around the world gathered to celebrate this milestone.  Chicago is the birthplace of Lions.  One of the highlights of the convention was the Lions International Parade of Nations held on Saturday, July 1, with over 250 delegations from around the world marching in the parade, that lasted over four hours.

The club will begin their new 2017-2018 year on Tuesday, September 5, at noon at Happy Joe’s, 109 W. Main Street, Morrison.  We welcome all to come to our meetings, held at noon on the first and third Tuesday of the month.
