Where can you meet new friends, have fun, and learn something new? The answer is, in Morrison, IL, with the Morrison Grand Squares dance club.  You are invited to join us during our beginner square dance lessons starting on Monday, January 9, 2017, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Odell Public Library Community Room located at 307 S. Madison Street in Morrison.  The first lesson is free; further lessons are $5 each.

Forty-to-100 dancers come from many surrounding towns to attend the monthly dances held at the Odell Library.

The music you will dance to ranges from modern rock to country. Singles, couples, and families are all invited. Dancing partners will be provided for solo persons. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.  This is not the dancing you learned in grade school. Square dancing is “choreographed” walking to music. You just listen to the caller who tells you which way to move.

Morrison Grand Squares started in 2008 after several styles of dancing were introduced to the community. Square dancing proved to be one of the most popular. The group has grown in membership over the years with enthusiastic members showing prospective dancers just how much fun you can have. This activity promotes movement, laughter, and plain joy.

The club does more than just welcome new dancers. They have been involved in charitable events to give back to the community. Over $2500 has been given to the Morrison Friends Food Pantry. Funds to help needy families have been raised during the Christmas season with the “Giving Tree” dance. Members have helped with blood drives, danced at town festivals, and entertained residents at assisted living and nursing homes.

So join us and beat the winter blues!  Be a part of the laughter and fun!  Bring your friends, neighbors, and relatives for a grand time!
