What is NAMI Sauk Area?NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness.  NAMI Sauk Area is a self-help, non-profit organization, dedicated to improving conditions for people living with mental illness and to give support for families and friends living with mental illness.

When and where does NAMI Sauk Area meet?We meet the 4th Tuesday of each month at Sinnissippi Centers, between Sterling, and Dixon, IL, at 6:30 p.m.

Why hold a 5K?We needed a fundraiser to help provide classes for families, called “Family to Family.”  This is a wonderful class offered free to families with a loved one living with mental illness.  It is a great toolbox and resource for the family.  In May we financially supported local law enforcement officers, who attended a one-day “Verbal Defense Tactics” training, to aid in helping those with a mental health disorder.

We thought a 5K would be a great family event.  One of our goals is eliminating the stigma that often goes with mental illness.  You will see this theme throughout the 5K events.

Is there support from local communities? The support from the area communities has been phenomenal.  We are proud to have the following sponsors:  CGH Medical Center; KSB Hospital; Sterling Steel;  Fine Line Engraving; Sauk Valley Plumbing; Wahl Clipper; Kim Brokaw, DDS; Hartland Controls; Rock River Cartage.

Is there a team event?Teams or corporate groups of four can register.

How do I sign up?Individuals or teams can sign up at https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Sterling/NAMISaukArea5KRunWalkBesideUs.  It is easy and quick.  Each participant will receive a t-shirt, which you order at registration.
