2023 Holy Week Services are listed below for 16 Morrison, IL, churches.  Holy Week is from Palm Sunday, April 2, through Holy/Black Saturday, April 8, prior to Easter.  Know that each Church welcomes new, lapsed, and long-time residents–as well as visitors–to attend their services.

On Good Friday, April 7, the annual ecumenical Community Cross Walk begins at Resthave Rehabilitation & Health Care, 408 Maple Avenue, at 12:15 p.m.  Community participants should arrive before that time.  New this year, at 11:50 a.m. a bus will depart from Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care, 500 N. Jackson Street, to transport those unable to walk the half mile downhill to Resthave.  The bus will return them to Pleasant View after the first Good Friday service concludes.

Inside Resthave on the Nursing side, Bethesda Lutheran Pastor Tammy Anderson will give a brief Easter message.  Brethren in Christ Pastor Craig and Kathi Sipes will lead the group in hymn singing.  The bus will transport those unable to walk the half mile uphill.  Walkers progress north on Jackson Street to Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care, 500 N. Jackson Street, where Ebenezer Reformed Pastor J. T. Bean will speak in the Cafeteria.  The public is invited to attend either or both short services at these residential care facilities; walk with others; carry the cross for awhile; contemplate the procession.  Morrison Ministers Council arranges the annual Community Cross Walk.

Bethesda Lutheran Church, 301 W. South Street, will hold a 9:00 a.m., April 2 Palm Sunday ritual, with the congregation processing with palms; breakfast will follow at 10:30. Maundy Thursday, April 6, service is at 7:00 p.m., with Holy Communion celebrated. On April 7, Good Friday worship is at 7:00 p.m.  Easter Morning worship, Sunday, April 9, at 9:00 a.m., includes Holy Communion.

Brethren in Christ Church, 209 E. Knox Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday, April 6, Foot Washing Service at 6:00 p.m., with Holy Communion offered, followed by a free dinner at 6:45.  All are welcome to attend.  Easter Sunday, April 9, begins with an outside Sonrise service at 8:30 a.m., which will move indoors if case of bad weather.  A potluck brunch follows at 9:30.  At 10:30 the inside Resurrection service will include local music.  There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children at approximately 11:45.

Church of Saint Anne-Episcopal, 401 N. Cherry Street, on Palm Sunday, April 2, offers at 8:00 a.m. Liturgy of the Palms and Low Mass; at 9:30 Liturgy of the Palms and Mass with music.  On Wednesday, April 5, there is Low Mass at 5:30 p.m.  On Maundy Thursday, April 6, there is Mass at 5:30 with music.  The Watch begins after Mass. On Good Friday, April 7, at 9:00 a.m. The Watch ends with Stations of the Cross.  At 5:30 p.m., Veneration of the Cross includes Mass of the Pre-Sanctified.  On Saturday, April 8, The Great Vigil of Easter, the 5:30 p.m. service begins with The Lighting of the New Fire. On Easter Day, The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 9, there will be 8:00 a.m. Low Mass and a 9:30 Mass with music.

Crossroads Community Church, 201 W. Market Street, (former Crave Building) worship services on Easter Sunday, April 9, are from 9:00 to 10:00 and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Baptism is available at both services.  Contact Jon Eastlick at 815-908-9367.  Coffee and baked items will be served at both times.

Ebenezer Reformed Church, 309 E. Park Street, on Palm Sunday, April 2, children will parade with palms in the sanctuary.  On Maundy Thursday, April 6, the 6:00 p.m. service will include Holy Communion.  Members might participate in the Community Cross Walk on Good Friday, April 7, at Resthave Rehabilitation & Health Care, 408 Maple Avenue, at 12:15 p.m.  Good Friday Tenebrae service is at 6:00 p.m.  Sunrise Easter service, Sunday, April 9, begins at 7:00 a.m., with a breakfast from 8:00 to 9:15.  Additionally, a Transformation Easter service is at 9:30 a.m.

Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morris Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday service, at 7:00 p.m. on April 6, which includes Holy Communion.  On Easter Sunday, April 9, worship service is at 9:00 a.m.  Featured music will be by Exhaltation Praise Team and the Sanctuary Choir. Coffee hour will follow.

First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, 100 E. Lincolnway, will hold all Holy Week in-person services and via live-streaming.  Palm Sunday, April 2, includes renewal of Baptismal vows, rededication of the church on its 168th anniversary, and a party during coffee hour. Kingdom Life Community Church, 11429 Ward Road, Easter service is on Sunday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m.; Holy Communion is available.  A Nursery is available for infants to 3-year-olds.  Children’s Church is available for ages 4 to second grade, who will be dismissed during the Easter service.

Morrison Christian Church, 201 S. Genesee Street, will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m.  Holy Communion will be offered.

Morrison Christian Reformed Church, 300 W. South Street, will hold a service on Easter Sunday, April 9, at 8:45 a.m.

Morrison First Baptist Church, 406 Maple Avenue, celebrates Easter Sunday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m.

Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, will accommodate all who come to worship.  On Palm Sunday, April 2, children and adults will process carrying palms through the sanctuary. On Maundy Thursday, April 6, at 6:00 p.m., Fenton and Leon Methodist Churches will join the service, which focuses on Scripture readings and hymns related to the Last Supper; Holy Communion will be offered.  Good Friday Prayer Time, April 7, is at 3:00 p.m.; everyone is invited to come to the Chapel to pray and reflect on “Jesus’s Last Seven Words.”  At 6:00 p.m., there will be a prayer vigil for those in need of healing. Easter Sunday, April 9, will begin with a potluck breakfast at 8:00 a.m., followed by an 8:30 Egg Hunt. Worship is at 9:00 a.m.

Our Savior Lutheran Church-LCMS, 21496 Hazel Road, Maundy Thursday, April 6, service and Holy Communion begin at 7:00 p.m.  Easter Sunday service, April 9, is at 9:00 a.m.  Coffee and treats follow.

St. Mary Catholic Church, 13320 Garden Plain Road, will celebrate Palm Sunday, April 2, with members processing in the sanctuary. On April 6, the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 6:30 p.m.[, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until 10:00 p.m.]  Good Friday, April 7, offers a Solemn Liturgical Service of the Passion at 2:00 p.m., with Stations of the Cross at 6:00.  Holy Saturday Easter Vigil Mass, on April 8, is at 7:30 p.m.  Easter Sunday Resurrection of the Lord Mass, April 9, begins at 10:00 a.m.  On Divine Mercy Sunday, April 16, there will be a Vigil Mass at 2:00 p.m. It includes the Holy Hour and Divine Mercy Chaplet prayer times.  Holy Communion is offered at all Masses.

St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LC-MS, 601 N. Jackson Street, at 9:30 a.m., on Palm Sunday, April 2, the congregation will process with palms. On April 6, Maundy Thursday, there will be a Lord’s Supper service at 7:00 p.m.  Included is Stripping of the Altar, symbolically representing Christ being stripped of his power and handed over to his captors.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.  Good Friday service is April 7, at 7:00 p.m.  On Easter Sunday, April 9, the Sunrise service is at 7:00 a.m., followed by breakfast from 8:15 to 9:15.  There is also a 9:30 service with Holy Communion.

Spring Valley Reformed Church, 10960 Spring Valley Road, will hold a Maundy Thursday, April 6, service at 6:00 p.m.  The Easter Sunday, April 9, Resurrection service is at 9:30 a.m., followed by fellowship time with coffee and snacks.
